Delivering Expanded Healthcare Services for Victoria’s South-West

The Victorian Government is investing $396.1 million in the Warrnambool Base Hospital Redevelopment to deliver modern, expanded health facilities for the growing communities of Victoria’s south-west.

Located at 25 Ryot Street, Warrnambool VIC 3280, the project centres on the construction of a new multi-storey clinical services building. Redback Health was engaged as the Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) and Medical Mechanical Equipment (MME) Advisor (Architectural) for the early and main works from 2023 to 2025.

As of March 2026, major construction is well underway following the completion of demolition and enabling works in late 2025. The redevelopment is now expected to be completed in 2027.

A Modern Multi-Storey Clinical Services Building

The new multi-storey clinical services building will transform healthcare delivery at Warrnambool Base Hospital by providing larger, purpose-designed facilities that support contemporary models of care and respond to population growth in the region.

Key features of the redevelopment include:

• A significantly expanded and modern Emergency Department
• Additional operating theatres
• An extra 22 inpatient beds
• Modern dialysis facilities
• A dedicated medical imaging zone
• A new 10-bed paediatric unit to provide specialised care for children and young people

To support the hospital’s work, a new off-site Regional Logistics Distribution Centre (RLDC) was completed in January 2024. This purpose-built facility manages commercial linen services and healthcare supply logistics, freeing up critical space on the hospital site for the new clinical building.

Redback Health’s Role as FFE and MME Advisor

Redback Health was appointed as the FFE and MME Advisor (Architectural) for the Warrnambool Base Hospital Redevelopment early and main works from 2023 to 2025.

In this role, we provided specialist architectural advice and consultancy services for all furniture, fixtures, equipment, and medical mechanical equipment requirements. Our involvement helped ensure that equipment planning was seamlessly integrated with the architectural design, clinical workflows, and operational needs of the hospital from the earliest stages through to the main works phase.
